How to Make Comics – a four session course for adults

Over four sessions, you will be introduced to a wide array of fun techniques to build great characters and tell their stories through the comic forms of panelling, sequencing, page composition and building a visual language. We will look at a variety of well-known and not so well-known comics, zines and graphic novels for context, and in the setting of Gnash Comic Shop, you will have inspiration at your finger-tips!

All levels of drawing ability are welcome and materials are provided.

Sessions start at 6.30 p.m: Monday Jan 10th -Monday Jan 24th -Monday Feb 7th Monday Feb 21st

Wallis Eates is a comic creator who began self-publishing autobiographical comics and zines, and was shortlisted for the Myriad Editions First Graphic Novel Award in 2014. Since then she has worked with community groups to share stories in the graphic narrative format, which has included the publications, ‘Me-We’, after a residency with an amateur boxing group, and ‘Wings‘, in collaboration with Dr Victoria Anderson and inmates from HMP Wandsworth. She is currently working on ‘Like an Orange’ which came about after a residency with Headway, a charity that works with brain injury survivors which is due to be published through Cast Iron Books next year.
