It seems to get more difficult every month to pick favourites from all the comics coming in to Gnash Comics but here goes.
Reborn #1 –£2.99
Written by Mark Millar , Art by Greg Capullo – variant cover by Jock
This isn’t released yet so I have only seen previews of the comic. But having seen as well the stunning variant cover by Jock I must say that I would probably get the comic just for Jock’s cover on this one. Then there is more oh yes, top creators Mark Millar & Greg Capullo join forces on this series and are sure to create the smash hit sci-fi / fantasy story of the year: What is its story line? Where do you go when you die? Not heaven or hell; somewhere else. Somewhere you have to fight to survive. Somewhere the people from the past are waiting for you-the good and the bad.
Saga’ volume 6 – £13.99
Written by Brain K Vaughn, Art by Fiona Staples
Saga always has to be on the list for top picks.
The series has been met with wide critical acclaim, and is one of the most celebrated comics being published. It has also garnered numerous awards, including a number of Eisner and Harvey Awards in 2013, 2014 and 2015. The first trade paperback collection won the 2013 Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story. It has also been noted for its diverse portrayal of ethnicity, sexuality and gender social roles, and for its treatment of war.
In Volume 6 after a dramatic time jump, this three-time Eisner Award winner for Best Continuing Series continues to evolve, as Hazel begins the most exciting adventure of her life: kindergarten. Meanwhile, her star crossed family learns hard lessons of their own.
Lucifer Volume 1: Cold Heaven – £13.99
Written by Holly Black, with art from the heavenly hands of local legend Lee Garbett and a cover by Dave Johnson.
This is one of those can’t put down reads, and having finished the paperback, which collects issues 1-6 I immediately picked up issues 7 and 8.
Holly Black weaves an incredibly intricate story and gains our sympathies for Lucifer. Lee Garbett’s art compliments the story perfectly adding another dimension.
The story line?- God is dead—and Gabriel has accused Lucifer of His murder. Lucifer had motive and opportunity, but claims he can prove his innocence. If Gabriel finds the killer and takes the culprit into custody, his sins will be forgotten, and he’ll be welcomed back to Silver City. Their investigation will span Heaven, Hell, Earth and beyond in this antagonistic buddy-cop noir with an angelic flair.
